Evaluation.

In our last lesson we prepared our two media products, our main task, the opening of a two minute film and secondly our preliminary task and we ensured everything was in order as we showed both tasks to the class that day. Furthermore, before we presented our media products to the class and teacher we prepared questionaires for the audience to fill out, to provide us with feedback and personal opinions. We included questions such as: Could you tell which genre it fell under? Were the actors and actresses professional? Was the music appropriate? And how could we have improved our media product?

Furthermore, below is the Evaluation we prepared to present to the class...

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our media product is an opening of a two minute film. Our group agreed that the genre of our film was going to be “comedy” because we felt inspired by other teenage comedies such as the films Juno and Saint Trinians.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product is effective in the way it represents social groups. It targets a teenage audience through its young characters, clothing and props. For example, our media film opening introduces three characters, one girl and two boys. The bright and “hip” clothing Katie is wearing presents her as modern, contemporary and “cool” therefore she represents a very modern social group.

What kind of media Film Company might like to work with your media product and why?
We feel that a media company such as Working Title might like to work with our media product because firstly Working Title’s most famous films are of the genre comedy. For example, they have produced About a Boy, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Hot Fuzz and Bridget Jones. There fore Working Title’s target audience is people who like comedies as is ours. Also, Working Title might like to work with our media product because in the film Billy Elliot Working Title focus on the character Billy who represents young people, our film is also a representation of young people however, in a more modern day society. Also, because our film “Loser” is British Working Title might like to work with it because Working Title is a British Film Production Company. Perhaps BBC, Studio Canal or Big Talk could distribute our film as Studio Canal has worked with the British film company, Working Title and our film is also British.

Who would be the audience of your media product?

Young people and people who like to watch comedies would be the target audience for our media product because it is a comedy and focuses on the representation of young people today.

How did you attract/address your audience?

We attracted our audience by using young people for our main characters, by using modern and “hip” clothing and by using modern props such as the ipod.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We have learnt that film technologies such as the camera and Premiere Pro can be complex and do need a lot of practice and getting used to.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
We have learnt not to underestimate smaller tasks such as the preliminary task because it did conclude to be very time consuming and we sometimes found it complicated to edit it and razor it to demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Powerpoint Presentation for Evaluation...

Today I prepared a Powerpoint Presentation for our Evaluation task. In the Powerpoint I included the questions in the specification such as, Who might like to distribute your media product, who is the target audience of your media product, how would you have changed your Preliminary task? Furthermore, I included in the Powerpoint the reasons why we chose our media product to be of the genre comedy and included the influences we had such as the teenage comedies Juno and Wild Child etc. My group also viewed both our media product and preliminary task to ensure that everything is organised for our presentation of both films tomorrow.

Successful music for our Main Task.

In today's lesson we edited the titles of our main task changing the font and the style to make it look more "cartoon like and colourful" to relate to our film's genre, comedy. Furthermore, we found appropriate music for our main task on the website "Unsigned music" and we added this to our main task by saving it and copying it onto Premiere Pro in the correct place.

Next lesson we plan to prepare our Powerpoint Presentation. This will include our film's Synopsis or a brief summary of what our film is about, how we filmed it, why we chose to use an outdoor setting etc.

Furthermore, we changed the title of our Main Task calling it "Loser". The reason being we believe it is more relative to our main character who has no friends and doesn't socialise etc.

Preliminary task editing!

In today’s lesson we edited our entire Preliminary task. We had to razor and cut a lot of our work as we filmed the conversation from both characters perspectives and we had to decide which perspectives were the most professional. We also had to consider when deciding which clips to use how clear the characters voice sounded, does it look realistic and are we abiding by the 180 degree rule? Furthermore, we had to check when editing our Preliminary task whether we were successfully demonstrating the shot reverse shot and match on action which we were.

Editing Main Task and Adding the Text to Main Task.

In my last lesson on the 3rd April I continued to work on my groups main task. We have recently been editing our main task, using the razor tool to cut up our main task and put it all together successfully. We had to delete a number of shots to make our main task work and to fix some mistakes. Furthermore, on the 3rd April I worked on putting the text and titles into our main task. I produced the text using different coloured fonts, for example, I used a red font to match the colour of the boys shirt. Furthermore, the text included the distributer, producer and the title of the film "I love her but..."
In our next lesson we plan to edit our preliminary task. Also, for our main task we must organise the music we will use as the music is essential for our main task as our film opening has no dialogue and the music is also important as it helps the audience to connect with our main character who is listening to the same thing on his ipod. This is an effective use of diegetic sound.
I also used the Audio 1 button on Premiere Pro to get rid of all the sound we do not want, for example, the sound of cars in the background.
