This is our final CD cover, the back and front. We changed the back of our CD cover and decided to include a photo of Katie the 50's singer in it as although Claudia is the central character, Katie also has an important role in the music video as she is Claudia's inspiration. Furthermore, we used Adobe Photoshop to position the two photos close together in a way that made Katie look like she is shadowing Claudia and we also blurred the edges of the photos to make it look neater and more professional. Also, the photo of Katie is a still from editing and is therefore a monochrome therefore an effective contrast is evoked between Claudia who is in colour and modern and Katie who is in black and white and further away to show that she is from the past.

This is our final poster advertising Kate Nash's song release. We used Adobe Photoshop to create a cartoon-like colourful landscape for our poster to evoke the fairytale theme and we changed the photo of Claudia we used before to the one where Claudia is wearing the red polka dot vintage dress as we felt this maintained the 50's theme that is evident in our music video and also the red dress has connotations of love which links to the song which is about heartache. We also used the photo of Claudia with her legs swinging down as this looked more realistic than the previous photo.

Filming Overview

We have recently been filming our footage for our music video and yesterday we filmed the performance based part of our music video in the "50's setting". Originally we intended to have Claudia as the singer in the 50's setting however we have had to change this and we now have Claudia's understudy, Katie, as the singer. We plan to have at the end of our music video a shot of Claudia looking at a photograph of Katie to explain that Katie is a 50's popular icon that Claudia really admires. We have cast Katie as the singer as we feel she has a 50's look and she also knows the song therefore she will be a confident mimer. Yesterday we filmed Katie's performance and we asked her to actually sing along to the song so that the miming is realistic. We used our school hall as our location as there is a red curtain across the stage therefore we positioned Katie with the microphone stand infront of the red curtain. We felt that the red curtain behind Katie made the location appropriate as it has connotations of love which relates to the song and also the red curtain makes it look like a performance. We used our storyboard to guide us and to begin we positioned the camera quite far away from Katie so that it was a long shot of Katie as we wanted the stage's red curtain to be visible and we also wanted the audience to see Katie's 50's outfit clearly. She was dressed in a black and white polka dot dress which is appropriate for the 50's theme, red lipstick and red shoes. We filmed a long shot of Katie singing along with the song. After we had filmed the song through once in long shot we then started to experiment with the different shots on our storyboard. For example, for the part in the song when Kate Nash sings, "I don't usually notice people's eyes" we filmed this as a close up and asked Katie to look directly at the camera when she sings this so the emphasis is on her eyes and face and by looking at the camera we felt the audience might feel more involved and connected with the song and this is also a voyeurism. Furthermore, we filmed Katie singing also from a side angle and this shot was a long shot. We decided to film from another angle as this was what we planned to do originally on our storyboard and we want our shots to be varied and more interesting and this means we will have a number to choose from when we edit in the post production process. We also filmed mid shots of Katie singing so that there will be a variation of interesting and effective shots in the music video and we also filmed a close up of Katie from a lower angle so the camera is partly looking up at her as we felt this shot gave her status. We also filmed close ups as when we filmed the long shot footage the microphone covered some of Katie's face and wasn't as clear as we wanted so we rectified this by filming close-ups and mid shots. Overall, the filming process was positive and effective as we got what we needed to do done and we feel we took some professional footage as we tried to evoke meaning with the shots we used by trying to sometimes give her status and also vulnerability with the long shot which reflects Nash's feelings of vulnerability in the song.

Below are some stills from the editing post production process. As you can see we made the performance sequence into a black and white monochrome. We did this using the tools of Adobe Premiere Pro. At first we found it difficult to convert the sequence into a black and white monocrome as we were unsure of what tools did this. Therefore we clicked on the "Help" link and asked how to change the footage into black and white. We were advised to use the "black and white effect" tool which is found in the Transitions/effects palette. We decided to make the footage into a monochrome as we wanted the performance sequence to look old-fashioned and sophisticated, like a flashback.

We decided to film a Mid close-up shot of Katie as it effectively shows Katie's facial expressions when she is lip-syncing and the Mid close-up shot focuses on Katie's lip-syncing which looks realistic as we asked Katie to actually sing the song rather than miming it. This way her miming looks professional and we can edit out her singing so that it is the song playing.

Production logo

We have changed our Production logo in order to make it look more professional and realistic. We decided to have an oval background which looks like a fingerprint as this relates to "CLICK". Furthermore, we then placed the mouse pointer which is our symbol for our logo in the centre of the oval background. We also curved the writing so that it fitted comfortably on the logo and we used Adobe Photo shop to make our production logo as it has layering tools and is a professional programme which is quite straightforward to use.

This is the front and back of our single "We Get On". We have used elements from our poster such as the tree, the colour of the background and the child-like writing as we wanted our CD front cover and back cover to link to the poster. To create the CD cover we zoomed in on Photoshop on the poster and copied the photo of Claudia and positioned her on the actual tree branch. Furthermore, we had to put on the front cover a parental advisory label as some of Nash's lyrics are profane and on the back of our CD cover we made the name of the song and artist and the reviews and rating smaller but held the white writing theme as we feel it stands out against the sky blue background. Finally, we used the stills from the filming process on the back of the CD cover and we edited this on Photoshop and made them look as if they had been cut out and blurred around the outside to continue this scrap book feel.

Development of We Get On Poster

We have recently been working on our Music video poster and the photo above shows our development. We have created the poster by using Adobe Photoshop and we created the swing, grass, flowers, tree, sun by using Photoshop's tools. We also used Photoshop to create our logo and the title of the song and writing was created on Photoshop. We decided that for our poster we wanted a sort of scrap book effect as we felt this would reflect Kate Nash's bubbly personality if she is surrounded by colourful cartoon-like imagery therefore we created the perfect outdoor scene around her by using different colours and pasting in the butterflies and robin. We made the flowers ourselves through photoshop. Furthermore, we have placed a photograph previously taken of Kate Nash on the swing and had to re-arrange the swing so that she is sitting realistically. In the photo she is wearing a green polka dot vintage dress to emphasise the 50s theme. However, we are planning on taking another photo of Claudia in a red polka dot dress so that the poster is really eye catching and so the emphasis is on Claudia. The polka dot red dress will also enhance our 50s theme. Also, we feel a red dress will be more appropriate as the colour red has connotations of love which will link with the song which is about heartache. Furthermore, we are going to take a photo of Claudia in this dress with her legs swinging down and her arms holding the swing so that it looks more realistic and this photograph will take up more room on the poster so that there are no large gaps. We have also included reviews to encourage the consumer to buy the CD and we have included the release date so the consumer knows exactly when it will be released.

This is another still from the Spy scene and it is a mid shot of Claudia. To add effect we have dressed Kate Nash all in black so that she looks like a detective as she sets out to spy on the boy she likes. Furthermore, we feel the dark atmosphere is somewhat effective as it adds an air of mystery and makes Kate Nash look suspicious however we are considering on whether or not we want to re-film this sequence as we will also have to film when she bumps into the boy in the dark and originally we planned to film this sequence in the day so that it is bright and sunny and connects to the upbeat song.

Stills From Filming

The above shot was not on our storyboard but we decided to film this shot so that we have more variation and have a variety to choose from when editing. This shot was taken at a lower angle and is a mid shot to show Kate Nash in her bedroom getting ready to spy. The lower angle shot is effective as it differs from usual typical shots and makes the shot look more interesting. Furthermore, the use of a lower angle is effective as it gives Claudia status and even makes her look important and significant. Furthermore, we can also see that Claudia is looking into the mirror as we can see some of her arm which makes it look like an over the shoulder shot, this is effective as we know that it is from Claudia's perspective. Overall, her reflection is the main focus of the shot.
This shot is a close up of Claudia when she is miming, "His eyes are way too close together". We used a close up for this part to emphasise Kate Nash's emotions; she is upset and feeling vulnerable after she saw the boy she likes kissing another girl and her feelings regarding the boy are evident through this close-up.

This shot is part of the CSI scene when Kate Nash is at home watching Csi and eating as she feels down. It is a long shot to show Claudia and we have taken this still to ensure continuity; if we need to re-film parts of this scene we can look at this still and continuity stills enable us to know the mise en scene and everything in the frame. Overall, we used a long shot for the CSI sequence so that the audience can see that Kate Nash in this part of the video is in the comfort of her own home and this relates to the audience as when people are down they tend to stay at home, eat and watch tv alone.
This shot is a high angle shot. We used a high angle shot as we wanted to experiment with new and different shots to add effect. Furthermore, we decided to use a high angle shot as we feel it is appropriate as it makes Kate Nash look quite vulnerable and therefore reflects her vulnerable feelings after the party. Furthermore, this still enables us to see the mise-en-scene in the frame if we need to re-film. We also used dim lighting for this sequence as we felt it created a private atmosphere and links to the song when Kate Nash is talking to her friends about the boy she likes and trusting her friends to understand.
This is a mid shot of Kate Nash to show that she is in the bathroom during the party. We feel this shot is effective as it emphasises Kate Nash's emotions and feelings. She is devastated that the boy she likes, likes someone else and she feels extremely unlucky in love. Kate Nash is also leaning on the wall to emphasise her vulnerability and that she needs support, wants comfort. To emphasise that she is really upset we have smudged her makeup and also have presented her as drinking her sorrows away and we hope this evokes pity amongst the audience for Claudia.
These are some stills from the filming process so far.

Overview of filming so far

We have recently uploaded our filming content onto the computer using the Mybook which is an external hard drive which means our filming can be securely saved. We have also started to edit the bedroom scenes, the CSI scene, the bathroom scene and the spy scene and for the post-production editing process we are using the computer programme Adobe Premiere Pro which involves watching the variations of different shots and choosing the most appropriate, professional and effective. We have decided to edit as we go along rather than editing the whole process together at the end of filming as this would be time consuming and difficult. Therefore, by editing after we have filmed separate scenes we can spend more time on each scene and make each scene look highly professional. Overall, we have decided to film some scenes again such as the spy scene as we feel the part where she is leaving her house is too dark.

Filming Photographs

"Kate Nash's house"
"Long shot of Kate Nash's house"We decided to use this location as Kate Nash's house in our music video as this location continues the 50's theme as the house is victorian styled from the outside.

Spy scene

Below are some photos of the scene where Kate Nash is watching CSI and reflecting on the party and in the filming process we have ensured that Claudia conveys Kate Nash's emotions in the song. We even played sad songs about heartache in the background when filming this part so that Claudia could express Kate Nash's feelings of heartache Furthermore, we have taken photos which show the variations of shots we have used in this scene and for this sequence we recorded a sequence from CSI previously so we definately had it for filming.

This is a mid shot of Claudia's side profile to show that she is watching tv and this shot is also effective as it shows quite alot of the living room and therefore creates a homely feel. The mise-en-scene in this shot is Ben and Jerrys cookie dough icecream, large dairy milk bar, blanket, pyjamas, cushions and sofa she is sitting on.

This shot is another mid shot of Claudia eating and we positioned the camera so that it is looking down on her slightly therefore it is also a high angle shot. We positioned the camera in this way to create a sense of vulnerability and to show that Claudia feels small and even worthless after seeing the boy kissing another girl.

Over the shoulder shot. This shot is effective as it is from Claudia's perspective and makes the music video feel more personal, the audience feel closer to Claudia's character as we are seeing things from her perspective and her point of view. In the song Kate Nash refers to this sequence as being in the evening "Saturday night, I watched channel 5" however we filmed this sequence in the daytime. Therefore to make it look like night time we had to close all of the curtains to block the light from coming through. We also turned down the lights to a dim quality of lighting to show that it is evening and is in relation with the song.

This is a photo we took of Claudia to ensure continuity in the spy scene.

To make sure there is continuity in the Party scene we have taken a photo of Claudia.
Throughout the filming process we have taken a number of photos to ensure continuity regarding Claudia's appearance and mise en scene to prevent mistakes from occurring. We have also taken photos whilst filming of some of the scenes in our music video so that we can reflect on the quality of filming.

We have recently started filming and this is the photo of Claudia we took to ensure continuity throughout the parts of the music video where she has to look the same (bedroom scenes). Her hair and makeup will be similar throughout the whole of the music video; she is wearing extensions, bright red lipstick and liquid eyeliner to emphasise the 50's look.

This is a photo of the Mood Board we created when planning our coursework; it includes all of our inspirations such as Bugsy malone, which relates to the scene where Claudia is in a jazz style bar singing. Other inspirations were Audrey Hepburn and we have a photo of her on our mood board. Hepburn was an effective inspiration for us as she was an extremely popular 50's style icon therefore much of Kate Nash's style in the video will be influenced by Hepburn and 50's fashion. Our mood board shows all of our ideas regarding the music video, poster and advertisement and is effective as when filming we can look at it to encourage us in the kind of mood we want to evoke in our music video. For example, on the mood board we have a photo of a fairytale castle and Snow White and her Prince Charming to emphasise that Kate Nash really wants to find her Prince Charming and wants to have her happy idyllic ending. However, the castle on the mood board is surrounded by a grey background and this emphasises that Kate Nash does not have a happy ending in the music video therefore in the video we want to emphasise Kate Nash's bubbly character this is why we have pictures of rainbows and butterflies and we plan to emphasise Nash's character by her fashion sense in the video and the intentionally humorous spy scene; however the grey pictures in our mood board also show that there is a serious tone to the video when Kate Nash gets her heart broken and therefore we want to convey these devastated feelings at the party scene.
